Video Summary
Dr. Kirsten Andrews, a North Dakota dentist and early CEREC adopter, presented a webinar on how cone beam CT (CBCT) has transformed her rural practice. She explained the differences between panoramic X-rays and CBCT, emphasizing the 3D detail, accurate measurements, reduced superimposition, and ability to detect more pathology. Andrews said every patient in her office receives bitewings and a CBCT, which has improved diagnosis, case acceptance, and patient trust.

She shared multiple clinical examples where CBCT revealed lesions, fractures, missed canals, sinus involvement, and other issues that were not visible on 2D images. These scans helped her make faster, more confident treatment decisions and avoid unnecessary procedures. She also discussed integrating CBCT with other technologies for sleep apnea appliances, endodontics, aligners, and especially guided implant planning. For her, the technology improves efficiency, communication, and surgical precision.

Andrews concluded that CBCT has provided a strong return on investment, generating significant revenue while expanding the scope of care in her rural office. She also highlighted a cloud-based sharing tool that makes it easier to send scans to specialists for consultation.
