Pdf Summary
This narrative review examined whether light-curing (LC) or dual-curing (DC) resin cement provides better long-term shade stability for lithium disilicate veneers. The authors searched PubMed for in vitro and clinical studies published in the last 8 years (as of June 1, 2024) and included only English-language studies with at least 10 veneers, veneer thickness under 1.5 mm, and objective color measurements using a spectrophotometer.

From 3,910 records, 10 studies met the criteria: 9 in vitro studies and 1 randomized clinical trial. Most studies showed no statistically significant difference in shade stability between LC and DC cements. A few studies found small statistical differences favoring either LC or DC in certain comparisons, but these differences generally did not reach clinical significance. Across studies, some color change occurred over time regardless of cement type.

Risk of bias was mostly moderate in the in vitro studies, and the single clinical trial had some concerns but overall aligned with the laboratory findings. The review noted that methods varied widely, especially in aging protocols, and most studies used the older ΔE*ab color formula rather than the more precise ΔE*00.

Overall, the evidence suggests that LC and DC resin cements have similarly acceptable shade stability for minimally invasive lithium disilicate veneers. Therefore, cement choice should be guided more by other clinical factors such as bond strength, shade/opacity, handling characteristics, and cost rather than expected color stability alone.
