Pdf Summary
Regenerative dentistry is an emerging, multidisciplinary field focused on repairing or rebuilding oral tissues such as pulp, enamel, dentin, gingiva, bone, and periodontal structures. Researchers in stem cells, biomaterials, genetics, and nanotechnology are advancing therapies that may one day allow dentists to restore damaged tissues more naturally—or even grow whole teeth.

Current work spans several areas. In endodontics, regenerative procedures are already widely used and aim not only to disinfect root canals but also to regenerate pulp, nerve, and blood vessel structures. Techniques often involve inducing bleeding to form a natural scaffold, then using bioceramics, platelet-rich products, or 3D-printed biomaterial scaffolds to support healing. In periodontics, guided bone regeneration and guided tissue regeneration help rebuild bone, ligaments, and cementum. Stem cells from dental pulp and periodontal ligament are also being studied for tissue repair.

Researchers highlighted in the article are exploring new biomimetic materials, exosomes, and minimally invasive drugs to improve cartilage, bone, and dental tissue regeneration. A notable example is a study bioengineering tooth buds in minipigs, which suggests future potential for living tooth replacements.

Despite the promise, major challenges remain. Scientists still need better standardization, long-term outcome data, and deeper understanding of how to maintain regenerated tissue over time. Funding and regulatory barriers also slow translation from lab to clinic.

The article concludes that regenerative dentistry already has practical clinical applications, but future progress will depend on multidisciplinary collaboration, public research funding, and tools like AI and big data to help design better therapies and predict outcomes.
